Senior Year Independent Study
Applied Politics and Policy
The summer before my senior year, I created and designed an independent study curriculum to take as a class during my final year at Watkinson. I named the class Applied Politics and Policy, hoping that the class would teach me how to take former knowledge and expand my thinking into real-life scenarios. The first semester of the course is research-based and includes two research papers on topics of my choosing. The second semester of the course includes a compilation of mini-papers, projects, and one large research paper about the demise of democracy in America, and creative solutions to stop it.
How Does The US Continue To Perpetuate Cycles Of Violence By Policing The Wrong Way At Home And Across The World?
In this research paper, I compare and contrast the war on drugs with the war on terror, outlining them to both be un-winnable wars that America has waged on cycles of behavior, as opposed to a specific group. In turn, this has continued to perpetuate the issues America has tried to fight. At the end of the paper, I outline reasonable solutions to both issues.
